He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving 20 years in the military, where he was in the 450th Bomber Wing 15th Air Force, the "Cotton Trails". He was an amateur radio operator with call letters K5UTH. He was a native of Lucedale and a postal route carrier. A member of First Baptist Church of Lucedale, he died October 15 at Silver Crest Personal Care Home.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Cooley Aylesworth; four children, Dwight M. Aylesworth of Raleigh, NC., Cheryl Aylesworth of Mobile, AL.; Wanda K. Aylesworth of Huntsville, AL. and Paul B. Aylesworth of Fort Worth, TX, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a sister, Myrtle Lee Hollinghead of Lucedale.
Interment will be held at Magnolia Cemetery. A military chaplain will conduct the funeral services.

S. M. "Shim" Aylesworth, Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Aylesworth, Sr., completed his training at Keesler Field on May 12 and has been sent to Laredo, Texas where he is attending gunnery school. He completed his training and received his diploma at Keesler as an airplane mechanic. Shim entered the Air Force October 5, 1942, was at Fort McClellan, McPhearson and Jackson Air Base before going to Keesler Field.
