Louis Berthiaume was born in Jul 1842 at Canada (French), son of Francois and Elizabeth (Paquet) Berthiaume.

At the time of his enlistment in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, in 1862, he was living at Worcester, Massachusetts and gave his occupation as blacksmith.

He was 19 years and 7 months old. On 3 Feb 1863 he mustered out of the 15th Massachusetts due to disability.

After the war, Louis returned to Canada, and on 19 Jul 1864 Tancrede Berthiaume married Celina Gaudette, 24, daughter of Michel and Josephte (Dupont) Gaudet, at Contrecoeur Ste-Trinité, Quebec, Canada. They had 11 children, and eight were still living in 1900.
