Obituary of A. P. Alderson.....Clayton, Union Co., New Mexico-Newspaper.
A. P. Alderson of Clayton, NM was born in Washington County, VA, Jan 14th, 1848 and died August 4th 1917 at 8:15 P.M. after a brief illness..
Mr. Alderson was a pioneer of Hunt County, Texas, coming from Virginia, in 1878 to Texas, where he lived until coming to New Mexico in 1908. He was loved by everybody far and near who knew him in Texas and has been successful in making friends in New Mexico since coming here. He was a kind and helpful neighbor and "Do unto others as you would be done by" was his motto..
He was married in 1874 to Miss Mary Culbertson of Virginia also and to them were born three sons and five daughters who are living and three children who have preceded him to the great beyond. Two of his sons and all of his daughters are residents of Union County. Ed and Will are well known. He was a member of the South Methodist Church all of his life having joined when quite a young man and he was an earnest and devoted Christian spending his life in the service of his Creator and his friends and family. He was a loving husband and father and his family never knew anything but kindness and unselfishness at his hands..
He died in the St. Joseph's hospital in Denver, kidney trouble being the principle cause of his death. His health had been failing for several years past but he was uncomplaining and patient..
He will be interned this afternoon at Creed's Chapel where he has lived for several years. The Rev. Hickman will conduct the services. To the sorrowing loved ones we extend our sympathy. We knew Mr. Alderson personally and will say we never knew a kinder gentleman. This world has lost by his passing on and the Great Beyond has gained. We could not wish him back in the suffering and sorrow that all we earthly travelers know and we can only hope that death will find us as well prepared for the future journey as he was..
