MATHIS, Ruth, Age 68, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, November 28, at Hospice of Dayton.
She was born in Middletown, April 5, 1939, to Ray and Sarah (Weaver) Davies, and graduated from Middletown High School, Class of 1957.
On April 29, 1958, she married Barry Mathis. She was known as Miss World Greeter; like Will Rogers, she never met a stranger. Known to the neighborhood children as "grandma", she loved to go to Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and loved to crochet and embroider items for doctors and nurses. She was a 24-hour homemaker/manager, and proud of it.
A member of the Breiel Blvd. 1st Church of God, where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She contributed two church-style organs to two area churches. A Christian with God's blessing for no pain, per Genesis 3:16. She was always seen at the ball fields with her husband.
Survivors include her husband, Barry Mathis; 3 sons, Barry Mathis II of Middletown, Kevin (Kim) Mathis of Middletown, and Douglas Mathis of Greenville, TN; and grandchildren Kelsey, David, and Stephanie. She is greeted at Heaven's door by her infant son Alan Wayne Mathis; granddaughter Candi Mathis; father and mother, Roy and Sarah Davies; brother Raymond Davies; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Sadie Mathis; brothers-in-law, Eugene and Leon Mathis; and sister-in-law, Ruthine.
The family would like to give thanks to Otterbein TCU, Rev. Eric Newell, Nurses Care, neighbor Theda, Drs. Hammond, Grau, Chow, Albers and Pelberg, Hospice of Dayton, Middletown Hospice Care, and the great firemen and life squad members of Middletown, who were called numerous times for their help.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, December 1, at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Eric Newell. Friends may call two hours prior to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery.
