1920 ~ 2004
L. Louise Whitehead Curtis, age 83, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday morning, January 22, 2004 with loved ones nearby and in the home she shared with her loving husband for 60 years.
Louise was born April 25, 1920, in Murray, Utah; the second of 10 children born to Laura Maxfield and Clarence Whitehead. She graduated from Jordan High School, Class of '38. When her mother passed away at an early age, Louise helped her father to raise her younger siblings, and she remained a constant and loving influence throughout their lives. She served honorably in the Southern California Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Orrin F. Curtis in the Salt Lake Temple on June 29, 1943 and of this union four children were born. Her family became the focus of her life and she raised her children to believe in honesty, honor, service, hard work and humor; values and lessons they have in turn passed on to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We have all been privileged to have basked in her unconditional love, and we will carry her memories with us forever.
Louise worked for Jordan School District for 25 years in the school lunch program. She began her career as a Lunch Room Worker, then became a School Lunch Manager and finished her career as a District School Lunch Coordinator. Her hot rolls and turkey dinners were legendary and children never went hungry when she knew they needed a good hot meal. She made many good and lasting friends during this time and always spoke of them fondly after retirement.
Louise is survived by her husband, Orrin, and daughters Linda (Chuck) Jordan and Nedra (T.J.) White. Also survived by her grandchildren Larry and Tonja Curtis, Tami Sommerville, Janet and John Culpepper, Christa and Denile Gale, Brenda and Kevin Zimmerman, Cariann and Manuel Gonzales, Tina and Clark Metcalf, Jon and Brenda White, Adam and Kara Curtis and Tiffany and Wes Bowling. Also survived by 24 great-grand-children with two more on the way. She is also survived by her brother, William Whitehead, her sister, Lorraine Baker and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons Kent 0. Curtis and Craig R. (Doc) Curtis, daughter-in-law Carol J. Curtis-Hills, and two granddaughters, Lisa and LuAnn Curtis. Also preceded in death by brothers Max, Robert, Richard, Francis, Don and Larry Whitehead and by her sister Mary Watts.
At this time we want to express our sincere and heart-felt thanks to Dr. Mark Rada and IHC Hospice; especially Dr. Jane MacPherson, Pat Buniva and Robin Caldwell, who were angels in waiting when we needed them the most.
