Katie Lucille Ferguson Bentley was born on Nov. 4, 1923 in the Champion-Mount Pleasant Community of Western Wilkes County. She is the 6th. of 7 children and the 2nd. daughter born to Peter Jasper Ferguson and Emma Rachel Dockery Ferguson. Her siblings are: Juanita Mae Ferguson Holden, Richard Dockery Ferguson, Raymond Elijah Ferguson, William Wheeler Ferguson, Quentin Roosevelt Ferguson and Ruth Ailene Ferguson Fairchild. Lucille married Hansford Lee Bentley and they are the parents of 5 sons. Their sons are Steven "Steve" Douglas Bentley, Michael "Mike" Lee Bentley, Terry Gray Bentley, Dennis Pete Bentley and Kevin Preston Bentley.
Lucille grew up in the Champion-Mount Pleasant community were she lived until she got married. She attend school in the same community. She attended church with her family at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Boomer, North Carolina. After her marriage to Hansford Lee Bentley she moved to Mooresville, Iredell County, North Carolina where they raised their sons. She worked in the textile mills in Mooresville until she retired due to illness.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, both of her parents, her youngest son Kevin Preston Bentley (who passed away 8 days after his 18th. birthday in a car accident), her oldest sister Juanita Mae Ferguson Holden and her Nephew Ralph Ferguson.
