INVERNESS - Robert J. Doran, 73, a retired assistant chief fire marshal for Nassau County, N.Y., died Thursday, June 8, 2006.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved here in 1991 from Syosset, N.Y. Mr. Doran was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness. He was a former fire investigator, Nassau County, N.Y., a former commissioner and past chief of the Syosset Fire District, an instructor for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms at the Federal Law Enforcement Academy, Glynco, Ga. He was a past president of the International Association of Arson Investigators, the New York State Fire Investigators and the Syosset Exempts. He was a life member of the Nassau County Retired Detective Association and a member of the BATF National Response Team.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline M. Doran, Inverness; son, Robert J. Doran II, Leesburg; daughters, Colleen Nelson, Inverness, and Joanne LaCasse, Shirley, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
