(Thomas)Henry Braithwaite came to the United States in the late 1870's with his parents and grandmother. The family settled at Salt Lake, Utah. The mother and grandmother died there. Thomas Henry moved with his father to California in 1881, when Thomas was 16. They were persuaded by a friend to migrate to Whatcom Co in Washington. They settled near the foot of Sumas Mountain in the Hopewell District, and built a log house, while clearing land. The farm was near Everson, WA.
