Fredericka ""Rachael"" Kyress Abendschoen
Learn about upgrading this memorial...
Birth: 1837
Death: 1919

The woman at left in the picture at right apparently is Fredericka Kyress Abendschoen, with her sister Catherine Carius Romire's son, Henry Romire. See picture caption for details.

The John Kyress sharing a tombstone with Catherine Romire in Salem Township Cemetery is brother of those two German immigrant Kyress/Carius sisters, Catherine and Fredericka "Rachael," all of whom lived originally in America at Watertown, Washington County, Ohio, where Henry was born.

Rachael or Rachel was the commonly used nickname for Fredericka, among Germans.

John Kyress' 1892 will left his tools and timber to his nephew Henry Romire, his house to his niece Rosa Romire, and $10 each to his nephew David Romire and to John's sister Rachael Abendschoen with her daughter Katie. He also left his watch to David.

**********

Fredericka's children Fred, Kate and William are all buried with her in Oak Grove Cemetery in Marietta, Ohio -- along with son William's wife and daughter Olga.

Fredericka's husband, Henry, is buried in old St. John's Evangelical Lutheran cemetery near Watertown.

Fredericka is easily confused with the other Fredericka Abendschoen of that era who was a near neighbor and is buried in nearby Mound Cemetery in Marietta. The one in Mound was wife of the brother Jacob of this Fredericka's father-in-law Frederick. Even more confusing, that Jacob's son Jacob changed the family surname to Ebinger. A shared tombstone shows the combined names.

From 1907 to 1914, Fredericka and her children Fred and Kate lived in Tennessee near who appear to be "Kress" relatives, who shared a wheelwright background that Washington County Kyresses had.
