Funeral services for Edna Faye Center, 85, of Lexington were held July 30, 2008 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dick Bland officiating. Interment was at Lexington Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mrs. Center died July 26, 2008 in Norman.
She was born July 22, 1923 in Indianola, the third of seven children of Benjamin Franklin Bland and Edna Armantha Williams Bland. She was reared in various towns in Oklahoma before moving to Lexington where she graduated from high school in 1941. The following year she went to work for the phone company in Norman.
On Jan. 5, 1943 she married Julian Lloyd Center.
During World War II she worked for Douglas Aircraft at Tinker Air Force Base. They later made their home in Lexington where they reared two children.
After the children were born, she worked with Mr. Center at the First State Bank in Lexington for 30 years before retiring. Upon retirement she enjoyed raising cattle on their farm and traveling.
Mrs. Center was a member of the Lexington First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Lynn Franklin Center; three brothers, Connie Orville Bland, Carmel Allen Bland and Benjamin Franklin Bland Jr.; two sisters, Inda Mae Bland and Martha Raye Bland and a son-in-law, Bob Deskin.
Survivors include her husband, Julian Center, of the home in Lexington; one daughter, Julie Ann Deskin; one son, Julian L. Center Jr. and his wife, Lee Ann, of Andover, Mass.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one sister, Ann Margaret Upchurch of Saginaw, Texas.
Pallbearers were Tim Hunt, A.V. Smith, Jerry Farley, KD and Tom Wilhite, Nick Morris and Herb Engdahl.
Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Burkett and Jim Hunter.
