Birth: Nov. 14, 1921
Death: Jan., 2007

Local rancher and businessman Jack Gordon Arrington was born November 14, 1921 in Breckenridge, Texas. He came to New Mexico in 1932 with his parents, Robert Lee and Louvenia Arrington, to homestead a ranch west of Deming. In those days, the family also owned and operated Camp Arrington, a motel and inn.

Mr. Arrington graduated from Deming High School in 1940 and married his high school sweetheart, Katherine Foster on August 7, 1942. The following year, he graduated from Boeing School of Aeronautics in Oakland, California, before serving in the Army Air Corp for two years. In his memoirs, he described traveling abroad on the Queen Mary to serve in the European Theater of Operations, where he was attached to the Ninth Air Force as an airplane mechanic. At the end of WWII, the soldier was happy to return home to his family and southern New Mexico. He farmed and ranched in the Deming area before buying a cattle ranch west of Las Cruces, in 1950.

In addition to ranching, Mr. Arrington worked during the 1950's as an engineer and explosives supervisor for the Warhead Test Section at White Sands Missile Range. He also served as Deputy Assessor in Las Cruces in the early 1960's. For many years he worked as a real estate broker in partnership with his wife, Katherine Arrington, at the Arrington Agency.
A man of varied interests, his hobbies included astronomy, chess, bridge, poker, philosophy, and probability mathematics. He also enjoyed writing poetry and short stories.

Mr. Arrington is survived by his wife of 64 years, Katherine Arrington of Las Cruces; daughter Jann Arrington Wolcott and husband, Dr. John Wolcott of Santa Fe; son Jack Edward Arrington and wife Patricia of Las Cruces; five grandchildren Jeffery Szalay of Albuquerque, NM; Janna Bunnell and husband Christopher of Monument, CO; Elizabeth Arrington Bradford of Corpus Christi, TX; and Jack Justin Arrington and wife Janine of Albuquerque, NM; great grandchildren Christopher Keene, Savanna Katherine Bunnell, Michael Lawrence Bunnell, Kayla, Krista & Kyle Szalay, Quaide, Brittany, Chance and Benjamin Bradford; nephew Robert Lee Arrington of Tucson, AZ and Billy Foster of Deming, NM, nieces Dona Rutherford of Las Cruces; Betty Sue Buchanan of Phoenix, AZ and Patty May of Hachita; sisters-in-law Marge Arrington, Mary Lou Monroe and Margaret Thompson; and his beloved horse, Traveler.
