Death of Mrs. Wm. Humphreys
Mrs. Jane Humphreys, wife of Wm. Humphreys, died at the family home near Croley on Friday afternoon, Dec. 20, and the body was interred at the Clark grave yard on Sunday.
Mrs. Humphreys was about 72 years of age and she was sticken with smallpox at the time the dread scurge recently made it's appearance in that community. She was greatly worried because on account if the nature of the disease she could not have her children with her, and the thought of being buried without the usual funeral services also bore upon her mind, and these things, coupled with her great age, tended to shorten her days.
Her maiden name was Jane Spicer and had she lived until the 21st day of next April she would have been the wife of Wm. Humphreys for 52 years. Her husband and nine children and one brother, who lives in Arkansas, survive her. She has been a member of the Methodist church for 25 or 30 years, and was a good christian and devoted wife and mother.
She was the mother of Mr. John Humphreys, of Clinton; Rev. W.E. Humphreys, of Wingo; Mrs. Bud Allison, of Hickman; and six other children, all of whom reside in this county.
Her son George and his wife and two children, also her daughter, Mrs. Evans and child, all of whom _______the Humphreys home, are__________ smallpox, but the disease _____________ and their early _______________ for.
