Published by the Concord Monitor.

Alice was the wife of the late George Everett Haynes, whom she was married to for 54 years and who predeceased her April 26, 1994, at age 82. She was born June 11, 1918, in Epsom (New Rye), the only daughter of Ida Celesta (Hartford) and Albion Bancroft Stearns. She had two older brothers, George and Arthur Stearns, both of whom predeceased her.

Alice was very active in the New Rye Congregational Church and Epsom Grange in her younger years, and she was a longtime supporter of the Epsom Historical Society. She worked at Rumford Press in Concord prior to and following her marriage until 1941, when her first daughter, Jacqueline, was born. The couple lived for 10 years in Hudson before moving to their home on Lund Road in Nashua in 1952. Alice spent many happy years as a homemaker raising two daughters, Jackie and Jill, and she enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, playing the piano and playing cards. In 1966, she went to work for the Doehla Greeting Card Company Inc. of Nashua as a piece worker, and later as both a multi-lithograph and offset printing press operator. She retired in 1984. Alice was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Nashua and at one time sang in the chancel choir and was active in the Women's Fellowship and Circles. In her later years, she was devoted to feeding the wild birds, writing notes and letters, sending greeting cards, and playing cards with many of her friends. Alice loved reading, The Price Is Right and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, as well as music.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Jacqueline (Haynes) and Richard W. Ahrendt of Homewood, Ill., and Jill (Haynes) and David A. Gidge of Nashua. She is also survived by three grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Kevin D. Gidge and his significant other, Melissa R. Huff, of Marysville, Wash., Stephen M. and Dena M. (Velez) Ahrendt of Lansing, Ill., and Jay B. and Carrie E. (Teigeler) Ahrendt of Palos Heights, Ill.; two great-granddaughters, Avery R. and Audrey G. Ahrendt of Palos Heights; one great-grandson, Bryan R. Ahrendt of Lansing; and one step-greatgrandson, Matthew R. Osuch of Lansing. She also leaves two nieces and nephews-in-law, Patricia B. (Stearns) and Oscar "Bucky" Bergevin and Suzette (Stearns) and Wallace L. "Babe" Russell, both of Epsom; one nephew and niece-in-law, Andrew B. and Marie (Begin) Stearns of Windham, Maine; as well as three great-nieces and five great-nephews and their families. She leaves a number of beloved second, third, fourth and fifth cousins, and a very, very special friend of more than 67 years, Alice Morin, 99, also of Nashua.
