MAIDEN - Flint Klutz Hovis, 78, of Goodson Road, died May 28, 2001, at his residence.

Born Nov. 28, 1922, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late John and Belle Clippard Hovis.

A member of Centerview Baptist Church, he served as a deacon. Owner and operator of Auto Beauty Shop in Lincolnton, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Gideons International.

He was preceded in death by four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Lois Laney Hovis; two daughters, Donna H. Lawing of Pumpkin Center and Millie H. Brown of Mount Holly; a half sister, Lilliard Caldwell of Newton; and two grandchildren, Angie Lawing of Columbia, S.C., and John Lawing of Matthews.

The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Larry McCracken, Grady Parker and Donald Ferrell at 4 p.m. today at his church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
