James Hembree, Retired Minister, Succumbs at 82

The Rev. James William Hembree, 82, retired Baptist minister, died Tuesday afternoon at his home, 6109 Oram.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Weiland-Merritt Funeral Chapel, 2909 Live Oak. The Rev. Hulon Coffman, retired Baptist pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park.

Hembree had served as pastor in many Wise County and West Texas churches in addition to holding a pulpit for a time in Hollis, Okla., before coming to live here in 1945. He had resided in Dallas with his daughter, Miss Myrtle Hembree, a teacher at Lakewood School.

He was born in Marietta, Miss., and came to Texas at the age of eight. He married the former Miss Maggie Idalee Jones on Dec. 16, 1888, in Paradise, Wise County.

Hembree was a Mason and an Odd Fellow.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Miss Myrtle Hembree and Mrs. W. E. Sherman, both of Dallas; three sons, Orie Hembree of Tracy, Calif.; Ernest Hembree of Amarillo, and Bill Hembree of San Angelo; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
