Philip Argall was born in St Agnes, Cornwall, England on 2 December 1840 (he appears in the 1841 UK Census).
Emigrated with his parents, a brother and a sister to the USA in 1848. They sailed on the ROSCIUS, arriving in New York from Liverpool on 8 Jul 1848.
At the time of his death, he owned property known as 710 and 712 Sanderson Street, in the Borough of Pottsville, County of Schuylkill, Pennsylvania. His Will is recorded in the Schuylkill County Willa, Bk 18, P.217. In the name of God: Amen. I, Philip Argall of the City of Pottsville in the County of Schuylkill and the State of Pennsylvania, Philip Argall being of sound mind, memory and understanding, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following, to wit: First, I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be fully paid and satisfied by my Executor, herinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease. Second, I give and bequeath unto my beloved children, Sallie Lowery, John Argall, Emma Ramsey, Gertie Clouser, all my real estate, all my household goods, kitchen furniture, silver plate and wearing apparel; and all the money in bank and insurance money, and they are to share and share alike, and in case one of any one of my children should contest my Will, be cut of his share of my real estate and all monies, then he or she shall receive five dollars out of my real estate. Third, I bequeath unto my Grandson, Johnathan Clouser Junior, the Piano. I constitute and appoint my beloved Daughter, Sallie Lowery, Executor of my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Wills and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made, and do declare these presents only to be and remain my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I, Philip Argall, the testratrix, have unto this my Will written on one sheet of paper, set m hand and seal this thirteeth day of June one thousand nine hundred and eleven (1911). Buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery, located at Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. SECTION FOUR, Row #2 contains; ILLEGIBLE, shaped white upright, inscription illegible. ARGALL, Jane J., b.1821, d.1891 - mother Thomas, b.1819, d.1892 - father Philip, b.1843, d. 1912 - father ILLEGIBLE, shaped upright, name and dates illegible. ARGALL, Mary A., w/Philip, b.1847, d. 1909 - mother. Obituaries in the "Pottsville Republican" of 29 Oct 1912 reads: "ARGALL - at Pottsville, on Sun Oct 27, 1912. Philip Argall. The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services on Wed. at 2 o'clock, as his late residence No. 712 Sanderson Street. Interment private." and on 31 Oct 1912: "Funeral of Philip Argall. The funeral of Philip Argall was held Wednesday afternoon from the family residence 712 Sanderson St. Services were conducted at the house by the Rev. W.H. Lindemuth, pastor of First Methodist Church, of town, after which the cortege, proceeded to Odd Fellows cemetery where interment was made. Undertaker Weber had charge. A large number of relatives and friends paid their last tribute of respect to the deceased."
