Obituary, The Oklahoman, June 17, 2012:
NEWALLA--Loyd was born March 19, 1948, in OKC to Loyd Elwyn Hargrove and Wanda Mar Hargrove. He grew up in Midwest City and graduated from Midwest City High School in 1966. He married his high school love, Catherine "Katie" McCormick, on April 29, 1966.

They made their home in Midwest City, where they had two children, Adonica Darlene Hargrove and Mark Andrew Hargrove; and two grandsons, Cole Andrew Hargrove Whelton and Wyatt Andrew Hargrove.

Loyd worked at TAFB for 37 years beginning in bench stock for the 3rd MOB and ending his career as a supervisor in the cost analysis division. Finishing what you started was a top priority for Loyd. He began college in 1966 while working full time, coaching his kids' sports and playing sports himself. In 1990, he received his Bachelor of Science and human resources management degree from Southern Nazarene University.

He had a great love for the outdoors, which he taught his children and forced his wife to learn to love. His two greatest passions were his children, their activities and amateur "HAM" radio. He took pride in achieving his extra class license with FCC endorsement; gaining this endorsement, he was assigned the call sign AB5I. Loyd was an active member of OCAPA and their technical advisor for 17 years, which included keeping all repeaters up and running. He also was the trustee of the OCAPA call sign. Loyd is now silent key, "73 Loyd."

He joined the Catholic church in 2001 after many years of attending church with his wife and children. He was very active in his parish, becoming a Knight of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight for two years. He was the charter president of St. Vincent de Paul Society for St. Teresa for the past six years.

In 2003, he was diagnosed with liver failure and was placed on the liver transplant list. For the past nine years, Katie has been by his side every step of the way. As a result of the selfless act of organ donation, he was called on June 13th to receive his long-awaited liver transplant. Due to complications during surgery, Loyd left this world June 14th with his family and compassionate transplant and ICU team by his side. A special appreciation to Dr. Anthony Sebastian, Dr. Harlan Wright and their staff, who cared and befriended Loyd for the past nine years.

Wake services for Loyd will be Monday, June 18th at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be conducted by Ford Funeral Service on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at 10 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Teresa of Avila, Harrah, OK, with burial to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City
