Charles 'Hoot' Gibson
TEMPLE Funeral for Charles "Hoot" Gibson, 77, Temple, will be at 1: 30 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Temple, with Trevor Smith officiating.

Mr. Gibson departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, in Temple.

Burial with military honors will be in Temple Cemetery under direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Temple.

Charlie Alfred "Hoot" Gibson was born Aug. 12, 1932, in Ames, to Charles Alfred and Julia Lorene Davis Gibson. Hoot grew up in Ames before moving to Pryor and eventually to Temple. He graduated from Temple High School in 1952, where he enjoyed playing football. He then entered the United States Navy during Korea and served four tours of duty, including two stat teams to Vietnam. He took great pride in his naval career. He married Nadine McClung on Aug. 5, 1956, at Burkburnett, Texas. During his 20-year military career, the family made their home at Coronado, Calif.; the Philippines; Las Vegas; Oklahoma City; Millington, Tenn.; Long Beach, Miss.; then again in Las Vegas and Long Beach before retiring in Temple. He stayed in the Reserves for another 10 years during which time he worked at Goodyear for 10 years and enjoyed farming as well. Hoot enjoyed horses, honey bees, reading Louis L'Amour books, doing leather work, wood work and all kinds of tinkering. He loved his dog Sadie. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year pin.

Survivors include his wife, Nadine, of the home; a son and his wife, Chuck and Jana Gibson, Elgin; a daughter and her husband, Denise and Leon McComber, Walters; a brother, Howard Gibson, Arizona; a sister, Judy Murray, Tahlequah; eight grandchildren and spouses: Lauren McComber, and Greg and Brandi McComber, all of Walters; Stacy and Chris McDonald, Largo, Fla.; Chas and Kelly Gibson, Apache; Cara Hitz, Dennison, Texas; Courtney and Steve Solstad, McKinney, Texas; and Leah and Bryant Mathews and James and Dora Gibson, all of Elgin; 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Clayton, Waldo and Luther Gibson; and two sisters: Helen Hern and Reba Josephine Gibson.
