Odes Jasper Choate, 89, a life-long resident of Dallas County and resident of Irving for over 65 years, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at a Dallas hospital. Born June 7, 1924 in Dallas County, he was the son of Odes Clarence Choate and Essie Lee Martin Choate. He graduated from Crozier Tech High School in Dallas. A U S Army veteran, he married Marzell E. Vandiver on November 10, 1947 at the Irving Church of Christ. A tool and die maker for Chance-Vought during World War II, he was a school crossing guard in his later years. Preceded in death by his wife on March 1, 2013, survivors include two sons, Odes Lee Choate and wife Martha of North Carolina and Michael R. Choate and wife Sherry of Irving; a sister-in-law, Betty Choate of Dallas; five grandchildren, Matthew Choate, Beth Beasley, Odes Eugene Choate, Grayson Choate, and Aurora Johnson; and several great grandchildren. The funeral was held Friday, March 28, 2014 at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, 606 W. Airport Freeway in Irving. Mark Roberts officiated. Entombment was at Restland Cemetery in Dallas where he joined his wife in a crypt.
