Alonzo "Lonnie" Lavern Hovey 69, of Salt Lake City,Utah passed away peacefully June 21, 2008 surrounded by family after suffering a severe stroke.
Born June 30, 1939 in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Lonnie grew up and lived most of his life between Washington State and Salt Lake City, Utah.
Lonnie had worked many years for the Salt Lake Parks Department and 25 years prior to his retirement Lonnie was a favorite maintenance worker at Highland High School.
A U.S. Veteran, Lonnie had served his country from November 10, 1958 until receiving an honorable general discharge March 3. 1959.
Lonnie loved to go fishing and was a wonderful storyteller. He also loved to tend to his yard and beautiful roses. Lonnie was always being helpful to everyone he knew; he loved his family and friends and everyone loved Lonnie.
Lonnie always gave quietly and freely of himself without thought of personal reward; he was a true giver. Lonnie was proceeded in death by his father, Alonzo "Lon" Thomas Hovey, his mother Mabel Edna Hall Stevens(Harold) and his brother, Landis Charles Hovey. Surviving are his wife Grace Edna Moth Iversen Hovey; bio-siblings. Ronald Hovey (Carolyn), Wayne Hovey (Mary). Maxine Combs (Jerry) and Ellis Hovey; children Donald Hovey (Deana). Brenda Poltera (Jody). David Hovey (Christean). Daniel Hovey (April), Russell Hovey, Raymond Hovey and Sara Hovey; step children Ronald Moth Iversen (Deborah), Edwin Moth Iversen (Shannon), Darrell Moth Iversen (Amy), Elene Dangerfield , Meraleen Cain (Terry)and 22 grand and great grandchildren.
A memorial/graveside service with military honors will be held July 5 2008 10:00 am at Elysian Burial Gardens 1075 east 4580 South, Salt Lake City Utah with reverend Jan Ewing. officiating.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at the gathering following the services at Terry and Meraleen Cains home located at 3290 East Kenton Drive(2930) South) Salt Lake City Ut
