Mr. Will A. Burch, age 90, of Eastman died Sunday, October 30, 2011.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011. Interment will follow in Islam Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Burch was a member of Eastman United Methodist Church, where he sang in the Chancel Choir and The Flames of the Spirit Quartet. He was a naval Lt. Commander in WW II, survived D-Day as commander of an LCT which was sunk beneath him, and also served in Korean waters during the Korean War. He studied law at Emory University and practiced law in both Atlanta and Eastman, opening a practice in Eastman in 1974, which he maintained until his retirement. He was noted for his compassion for people in trouble and was thorough and effective in working for his clients. He is remembered with affection and gratitude by many people.
A native of Dodge County, he was born to Will A. Sr. and Eva Roebuck Burch and was the youngest of twelve children. He was preceded in death by his parents and by siblings: Raymond Burch, Roebuck Burch Sr., Dykes Burch, Evelyn B. Harden, Willie Lou B. Hemperly, Mae B. McCranie, Elizabeth B. Gaines, Virginia B. Wood, Frances B. Horton, Charlotte B. Sagus, and Lorene, who died in childhood.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Clark Burch; son Michael D. Burch of Hawaii; stepchildren Lawton Clark of Eastman; Nancy C. Heath of Dublin; Susan C. Barlow of Eastman; step grandchildren Zoe Uland Rozier, Winifred H. Heath, Edith H. Hodges, Solomon C.T. Heath; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
