James S. Aynsley's parents were born in England. He was born in Washington State in 1902...In the 1930 census, when he was 27 yrs. old and single, he lived in Seattle, King Co., WA. In the 1940 Census, he was living in Sparks, Washoe Co., Nevada. He was also married at this time, as the Census showed Grace Aynsley as his spouse. When he enlisted in the US Army, he was living at 1015 Hancock St., Newberg, OR.

His marriage to Grace would be prolific for daughters. His daughters and ages were shown in the 1940 Census as:

Catherine (age 8)
Margaret (age 6)
Judith (age 5)
Barbara (age 3)

In WWII, he was a Warrant Officer (CWO JG) with the 455th AAA Bn., HQ, as the unit Personnel Officer. He was called 'Pop' Aynsley, either because of his large family when he enlisted, or due to his age-he was 43 yrs. old when the War ended for the 455th AAA in Sept. 1945. The unit was trained in Camp Stewart and Ft. Benning, GA in 1942-1943, then guarded airbases in England as one of the first antiaircraft units in England. The HQ was at Watton, England and that's where James Aynsley would be located.

The unit went to France on in July 1944, as part of the coming "Operation Cobra". The 455th AAA guarded field artillery batteries, airfields and supply dumps during the War. They were attached to Patton's Third Army, Walker's XX Corps for the Race Across France, then went into Germany and Austria.

After WWII, James became the Postmaster of Clallam Bay, WA. When James Aynsley died in 1985, at age 83, he and Grace were buried in Washington State.
