Vernice Balentine of Lutts, TN, was born September 9, 1918 in Lutts, Tennessee, the son of the late Elbert and Icie Reaves Balentine. He was united in marriage to Lucille Tidwell on December 14, 1941. Mr. Balentine was retired from Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company and was a farmer.

He departed this life on Monday, October 20, 2008 at his home at the age of 90 Years, 1 Month, 11 Days.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Balentine was preceded in death by a son, James Larry Balentine; two brothers, Ray Balentine, Willard Reaves; three sisters, Vertie Weeks, Iva Dean Balentine, and Merga Balentine; and two great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Balentine of Lutts, TN; a daughter, Joyce McFall of Lutts, TN; two sons, Roger Dale Balentine of Lutts, TN, Vernice Junior Balentine of Cypress Inn, TN; three sisters, Eunice Petty of Lutts, TN, Imogene Tilley of Woodbridge, VA, Inez King of Orlando, FL; 7 Grandchildren, 3 Great-Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 1 pm at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Collinwood, TN with Dennis Hanvey and Josh Stults officiating. Burial will be in Balentine Cemetery, Lutts, with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County directing. Pallbearers will be Jeff McFall, Daryle Balentine, Matthew Chambers, Brad Balentine, Donald Balentine, Leroy Petty. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh McFall, Wes Sharp, Glennis Weeks, Dana Wright, Coy Petty, Kenneth Petty, Billy Joe Dean, Steve Dean.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 22, 2008 from 5 pm to 9 pm and Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 9 am until service time at the funeral home.
