Born in Denmark, the area later became part of Germany. (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany)
"Emma Jurgensen, daughter of Nis and Maria Peterson, was born in Denmark, September 16, 1861, and passed away in Cambridge, Illinois on August 31,1947,
She was married to Barney Jurgensen, March 5,1885, in Princeton, Illinois, and lived in the vicinity of Saratoga and Bradford ever since. Mr. Jurgensen passed away in 1901.
Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Nichola, who died in infancy, and John who Passed away five years ago, a sister and six brothers. She is survived by one son, Harry, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and five daughters, Mrs Mary Miller of Malta, Montana, Mrs. Ena Carsten, of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, Mrs.Anna Coneghy, of Cambridge, Illinois, Mrs Selina Ryan and Mrs Alice Forbes of Bradford. She also leaves 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and a brother August Peterson of Bradford. Mrs Jurgensen was a faithful member of the Methodist church through a long period of years, a devoted mother and a loyal friend.
Though her health had been failing for time, and her advanced age was also setting its natural limits to her strength, she had been seriously been ill for only the past several days. She had dept active and her interest until the last, and spent much time at crochet and other needle work until the past two weeks. Sunday was always her Sabbath day, and thought she had been unable for some time to attend church services, she spent much of that day reading her Bible, and writing to her loved ones.
For the past year she had lived with a friend in Cambridge, where she would be near her youngest daughter, and within easy access to most of her other children and delighted to have them stop in to see her and take part in family gatherings on anniversary occasions. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other loved ones and friends. But though she leaves the companionship of this world she has entered into the joy of reunion with many loved ones in the palm of eternal day. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 1:30 O'clock at the Leet Memorial Methodist church with Rev. Austin Rodgers officiating. Burial was made in the Saratoga cemetery. The pall bearers were Ralph Hapner, of Manlius, Ivan Webber, Keath Blackburn and Herbert Doyle, of Henry and Harley and T.J.Flood of Bradford.
Relatives and Friends attending the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs.Harry Jurgensen of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mrs Ena Carlsten and daughter, Carlena of Taylor Ridge, Mr and Mrs. Clayton Coneghy, of Cambridge, Miss Mary Jean Forbes, Chicago, Mr and Mrs Wm O'donnell, of Decatur, Mrs.Ellen Peterson, Mrs.Irene Hildebrant, and Melvin Peterson of LaMoille, Mr. and Mrs. William Duffield, Mr. and Mrs. John Alden, fo Arlington, Mrs. Elsie Peterson and Mrs.Betty VanDusen, of Princeton, Mr. and Mr. Ralph Hpper of Manlius, Mrs. Fred Hayden of Buda, Ivan Webber of Oneida, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Blackburn and daughter, Karen and Herbert Doyle of Henry, and Mr.and Mrs. Ed Darling of Wyoming."
