Huby Spencer Bentley, 72 (b. c1925), of Brunswick, died Sunday (9 Mar 1997) at the Southeast Georgia Medical in Brunswick.
The Wilkinson County native had been a resident of Glynn County for forty years. He attended the Carteret Church of Christ in Brunswick. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received his associate degree from South Georgia College in 1948, his B.S. degree in 1950 from the Georgia Teachers College and received his Masters degree from Georgia Southern College in 1968. He taught at Hoboken High School from 1959-1957 and Jane Macon Middle School from 1963-1987 where he retired. He was a Glynn County school bus driver from 1987-1996. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Georgia Master 4-H Club, Georgia 4-H Volunteer Leaders Association and was a Mason. He received the retired teacher of the year award in 1996.
Survivors include his wife Eva Mae Bentley of Brunswick; three daughters, Michelle R. Stieve of Nahunta, June B. Hagin of Buena Vista and Candy A. Bentley of Brunswick; his mother, Nina Mae Bentley of Irwinton; two sisters, Florida Powell of Leesburg and Janet Lawing of Acworth; four brothers, Earl Bentley of Irwinton, Jimmy Bentley and Richard Bentley, both of Milledgeville and David Bentley of Smyrna; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 12, from the chapel of Edo Millers and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick with Clifford Payne, Earl Wages, and Robert Gibbons officiating.
Interment followed in the Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Randy Jones, Richard Futch, Darryl Johnson, Brett Hette, Jimmy Bentley, Jr., Richie Bentley, Chris Bentley, Jason Reeves, John Hagin and Willie Hagin
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home of Brunswick was in charge of arrangement.
