John was the son of James and Mary (Kyle) Watson, all born in Tennessee. He married Mary Elizabeth (Lemmon) Tuck May 25, 1879. Mary died Apr. 27, 1904 and is buried here under the name Tuck.
Obituary in The Walnut Grove Tribune, Wednesday, September 24, 1913: John Watson was born in east Tennessee, February 7, 1834 and died September 15, 1913, age 79 years, 7 months, and 8 days. He was married to Miss Jane Meloy January 22 1857. To this union were born eight children, three of whom are living. H. M. Watson of Graydon Springs, T. J. Watson of Walnut Grove, Mrs. J. N. Bloomer of Walnut Grove.
His first wife having died in Ill. December 31 1877 he was married to Mrs. Mary E. Tuck June 1, 1879. She died March 27, 1904. Mr. Watson united with the old union Methodist Church at Morrisville many years ago never having moved his membership. Always living true to his church and loyal to his maker. In all the vicissitudes of life he filled his mission well. Grandpa Watson had reached the station in life where he could look back and see the goodness of God and his care. Children, grandchildren and relatives and friends that are left behind look forward to the opportunities you have for honoring God and blessing mankind. Look into your own heart and keep it fit at all times for the allseeing eye. We commend those who suffer the loss to God who is able to care for you and point out through sorrow's night the stars that shine beyond.
The esteem with which he was held by his neighbors and friends was attested by the large crowd that filled (sic) into the church at Turkey Creek to listen to the funeral exercises conducted by Rev. JAs. Lemmon of Ash Grove, after which the body was laid to rest in the grave to await the resurection (sic) morn when the good and bad shall rise.
