Death: Oct. 13, 1938

George was born in Memphis, Missouri. He was 12 years old when his parents separated. He stayed with neighbors until he was able to care for himself and lived for a time near Quincy, Illinois.

After meeting and marrying Mary Black. He bought some land in Madrid, Nebraska and built a sod house. They plastered and wallpapered the inside making it very nice to live in. They had no water and so had to haul it for miles.

After many years of dry weather, crop failure, grasshoppers and bad cattle prices, they sold the farm and moved to the city. They bought a hotel known as "The Madrid House", a livery barn, and a butcher shop. The children were able to get better schooling in town.

George was a fine man, temperate, clean habits, sturdy character and a good husband, father, and neighbor. He was a Christian and a leader in the community. He served as a Deacon in the Congregational Church for 18 years and was also a member of the school board for many years.

George died while visiting with his children in Califoria.
