Anita Marjorie "Margie" Simonson Bryant, a native and lifelong resident of Bayou La Batre, AL, died Thursday, January 27, 2011. She was a graduate of Alba High School. Margie was married to Buford Lee Bryant for 68 years, during which she supported Buford as he co-founded Polyengineering of Mobile/Polysurveying by working briefly as a secretary. She then devoted all of her time to her family. In the late 1970s, Margie and her three sisters opened and operated the Petit Four Bakery in Bayou La Batre for several years. She was a member of St. Mary's by the Sea Episcopal Church. Margie was well-known for her beautiful yard and well-kept garden. She enjoyed freshwater fishing, especially in the creek behind the historic Simonson-Bryant homestead. She was preceded in death by her father Sewell Andrew Simonson and mother Hattie Willett Simonson, her brothers Phillip Simonson, Kent Simonson, and Bobby Simonson, and three years ago her husband Buford Lee Bryant. She is survived by her children Sandra (George) Hunt, Craig (Virginia) Bryant, and Felicia (Kim) Douglass; her grandchildren Bret Westbrook, Celeste (Andy) Kirchoff, Alan Bryant, Lester (Nicole) Bryant, Keith (Amy) Bryant, Matt Bryant, James (Lindsay) Douglass, and Andy (Jordan) Douglass; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters Felice White, Joanne (Frank) Zirlott, and Happy (Wayne) Jowers; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 10 A.M. Visitation will be 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oddfellow Cemetery.
