Exerpted obituary: Services for Bessie Jean Jones, 78, of Zaneis were 10 a .m. Saturday July 11, 2009, at the Shell Street Church of Christ in Healdton. Minister Danny Huntsman officiated. Burial followed at Mount Olive Cemetery in Healdton. Serving as pallbearers were Glenn Ballard, Greg Ballard, Othal Ballard, Casey Jones, Daniel Davis and Ron Garner.
Bessie was born on July 27, 1930, in Morrisville, Pennsylvania to Walter Clyde and Mary Wilgis Tomlinson. She departed this life to be with her Heavenly Father on July 8, 2009, at an Ardmore Hospital.
As a young girl Bessie attended School at Trenton, New Jersey. She later graduated from New Jersey State Teachers at Trenton in 1952 receiving a B.S. in education. She later received her M.E. in 1969, from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, then receiving a Special Reading certificate in 1975, from SOSU.
On April 1, 1953, Bessie married Aaron Lee Jones in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Making their home in Denver City, Texas for a short time, then moving to Oklahoma where she taught school for 16 years in Ringling, Okla. Six years of that was in the Special Reading Lab which was very dear to her. Being a school teacher was a very important part of her life, something that she took very seriously and was very proud of. She was Teacher of the Year in 1979 in Ringling. Even on her days off she was a teacher, teaching Sunday School for 40 years. She was a member of the Shell Street Church of Christ in Healdton. She was also a very proud homemaker, enjoying sewing and caring for her family. Bessie was loved by her family and friends and will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Walter Clyde Tomlinson and two sisters, Agnes Kate Cogar and Mary Carrick. She is survived by her husband Aaron of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Teresa Jones of Wilson, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gerri and Glenn Ballard of Zaneis, Okla. and Mary Jean and Ron Garner of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren Greg Ballard, Durant, Gaylene Ballard, Zaneis, Casey Jones, Oklahoma City, Courtney Jones, Wilson and Cayla Jones, Washington; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Danielle, and Turner.
