Born northwest of Fairport, DeKalb County, Missouri in a house across the road from the farmhouse of her paternal grandparents Nathan Stickney Hale and Emma Laura Simons Brill. Ola later lived in Pratt County, Kansas and attended Wagonhammer (also known as Bethel) School there. In 1916 Horace and family moved to Stonington, Baca County, Colorado. They had traveled by train to Elkhart, Morton County, Kansas and then by covered wagon to arrive at Stonington. In 1919 at the age of sixteen she began working at the Colorado State Bank in Stonington. She also worked occasionally at the Citizens State Bank in Branson, Las Animas County, Colorado. She married Herbert Augustine Holt September 1, 1926 in Trinidad, Las Animas, Colorado. After their marriage, they moved to the "new community" of Walsh, Baca County, Colorado. There they opened Holt's Grocery and operated it until 1945, at which time they sold the grocery store and purchased the Oasis Hotel. Ola operated the hotel from then on until about 1993.

Ola loved her family and enjoyed traveling.
