****************************************
Son of--
Nathan Brownfield Jennings
and
Elizabeth Jane Findley Jennings

David was the 4th of the six children from his parent's marriage. David's father was of Scottish lineage, and his mother was from Irish lineage. [I share this lineage since David's parents are my 2nd great grandparents. (dht) ]

-----

Education--
David finished his schooling after the 8th grade. As it was for many of his generation, it was difficult to continue going to school, when the demands of making a living called.

---

Military--
There is no mention of David Ambrose Jennings registering for military service or enlistment in military service, either in USA military archives or family records. David may have been excused from military service in WW I (about 1918) and WW II (about 1942). [I proffer this idea, for that was the case with my maternal grandfather Laurel Flynn Scott -- Laurel was David's nephew through Laurel's mother Mary Grace Jennings Scott (David's oldest sister). Laurel went to register for military service both in WWI and WWII, but failed the medical exam -- so there are no records or documents about that military process for Laurel. I have the same medical conditions as my grandfather Laurel, and they truly preclude many activities and abilities.(dht) ]

-----

Residences and Occupations--
David was born in Kansas, went to school there, and lived there with his parents and siblings. He worked as a ranch laborer in Kansas, often living at the ranches perhaps in a "bunk house" for ranch hands.

In 1940, David (age 61) and wife Mary M. K. Jennings (age 52) resided at 265 Cherry Valley, in Beaumont, Riverside, California. David was employed as a ranch laborer and Mary worked as a part time volunteer District Librarian. Mary had finished her formal schooling after one year of high school. At age 82 and a widow since 1941, Mary finally applied for her Social Security Number in 1965 in California. [One can only surmise why Mary waited so long to apply for a SSN, and what circumstances or events lead to her decision to complete the SSN application form. (dht) ]

Marriage--
Before 1940, David was joined in marriage to Mary M. K. Jennings (birth: 3 Nov 1883 Wayne County, Michigan -- death: 14 Mar 1977 Beaumont, Riverside, California).

[I've not found any further info about whether they had any children. And this family scribe is still researching David's wife Mary and her lineage. (dht) ]

-----

Burial--
David predeceased his wife Mary by about 36 years in 1941. She was laid to rest in 1977 and shares the same grave and grave marker with David. [I don't have any info about her life during those 36 years or if she had children or family. (dht) ]
