Jane B. Gibson, 84, pioneer resident of Roberts and Menan, died at an Idaho Falls Hospital Tuesday morning.
She was born Oct. 20, 1880, at Ogden, Utah, daughter of Zachariah and Martha Farin Ballantyne. She attended schools in Ogden and when she was 18 moved to Menan where she taught school. The next year she was married to William Wesley Gibson, also a school teacher in Menan, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
They bought a ranch in Menan, known locally as the Big 6. Five years later they bought a general merchandise store in Roberts where she has since lived. Her husband preceded her in death in August 1937 and she operated the store until 1941.
She was a member of the LDS Church and in former years was active in Relief Society. For many years she sang at many functions in the Roberts community.
Sons and daughters surviving are Mark Gibson, Boise; Wayne Gibson, The Dalles, Ore.; Mrs. R.A. (Bessie) Dwigans, Terreton; Mrs. W.J. (Rae) Williams, Arcadia, Calif.; Mrs. John (Polly) Stibal, Roberts; Mrs. Gorden (Helen) Ritchie, Martinez, Calif.; Robert Gibson, Seattle, Wash; and W.L. Gibson, Nampa. Nineteen grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren survive.
