BERNARD, Iowa -- Zelda M. Kenneally, 98, of 229 Jess St., Bernard, died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at her home in Bernard.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Garryowen. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where a wake service will be at 4 p.m.

Zelda was born on Oct. 28, 1913, in Dubuque, daughter of Vincent and Clara (Keegan) Driscoll. She received her education at the former Visitation Academy in Dubuque and then attended the University of Dubuque, where she received her teaching certification.

Zelda was a school teacher for many years, teaching at one of the last one-room school houses at St. Joseph's Prairie in Dubuque County. She later taught at Resurrection and St. Anthony's, both in Dubuque.

She married Joseph Kenneally on June 6, 1939, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fillmore; he preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1977.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Garryowen, Iowa.

Zelda loved spending time with her family and baking cookies for them. She also enjoyed reading and playing cards with her friends.

Surviving are three children, Robert (Lynda) Kenneally, of Bernard, JoAnn (Tom) Sweeney, of Peosta, and Mary (Dwaine) Frantzen, of St. Donatus; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Imelda Slattery, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Driscoll; and a sister, Mary Carlyn Melloy.
