PEORIA, IL - Norman F. Gebauer, 92, of 6901 N. Galena Road, Peoria, passed away at 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Heartland Manor Care in Peoria.
Born Feb. 15, 1916, in Peoria, the son of Otto and Ethel (Slater) Gebauer, he married Lorita Ruth Bridgestock on Oct. 17, 1942, in Chicago. She died March 24, 2005.
Surviving are one son, Gary (Doris) Gebauer of Urbana; one daughter, Gail (Dennis) Shockey of Bourbonnais; three grandchildren, Keith Shockey, Joel Gebauer and Meghan Gebauer; and five great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Karen Gebauer; and one sister, Marian Newman.
Norman first worked as a milk delivery man for Gebauer Dairy and later for Golden Rule Dairy. He then worked as a sales director for Keystone Steel & Wire Co. in Bartonville for 40 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a volunteer escort at Proctor Hospital for eight years.
He was an officer in the Army Air Forces during World War II and the Korean War.
There will be a graveside service at noon Thursday, Oct. 16, in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington, with Pastor Paul Park officiating. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Waters of Life Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria.
Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Lutheran Hillside Village Fund.
