Washington Chaffee b. Aug 12, 1815, Berkshire, Franklin, Vt. d. April 10, 1881, Berkshire, Franklin, Vt. He was the son of Reuben Chaffee and Sally Danforth. He married 1) Sept 8, 1836 by Rev. Peter Chase , Rachel Brice, b. Jan 25, 1813, Shrewsbury, Vermont. d. Sept. 1, 1864, Berkshire, Franklin, Vermont. She was the daughter of Alexander Brice and Lucy Wilber.

He m. 2) Jan 19, 1865 at St. Armands, Quebec, Canada, by the Rev. Arnold L. Arms, Pruella Janes, b. Feb 9, 1830, St. Armands, Quebec, Canada . She was the daughter of Isaac Janes and Zoa Ayer. She was a widow and had married 1st ? Silloway (no date given). She married 3) Charles Maynard and resided at Bakersfield, Vermont. The Chaffee genealogy gives no date of death for Pruella.

"Mr. Chaffee was a farmer and always resided at Berkshire. He owned a farm in the northern part of the town, and a little east of where his father and brother lived. He was familiarly known as Deacon Chaffee, being a deacon in the Baptist Church. For twenty years he was a constable in Berkshire."
