CHARLES "ED" ARMSTRONG, 87, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at The Towne House Retirement Center, Fort Wayne. Born in Norton, W.Va., he was a World War II Army veteran who received two purple hearts. He started working at A 1 Production Inc. in 1956 and became the owner. He started Aegis in 1962. He was a member of Elks 2378 in Englewood Fla.; Disabled Veterans; and American Legion in Kendallville. He was a boat racer early in life, and moved onto playing golf, making custom golf clubs, enjoyed karaoke, and playing racquetball. "Ed's kindness and gratitude for life will be missed by many." Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Peg Armstrong of Fort Wayne; daughters, Joyce (Carl) Brown of Churubusco and Mary (Dave) Snyder of Kendallville; son, Chuck (Beth Sullivan) Armstrong of Brownsville, Vt.; sister, Avis Fisher of Ohio; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Nellie Armstrong; brothers, Fuzzy and Pete Armstrong; and sisters, Ruby Crance and Rissie and Mamie Thorn. Service is 2 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2012, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Douglas Vogel officiating. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial in Huntertown Cemetery. Memorials may be made to donor's choice.
