MCSPADDEN, CLAUDE HUMPHRIES - age 93, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011 at home in West Knoxville. He was the youngest child of the late Edgar Wallace and Letitia Isbill McSpadden of Madisonville, TN. who were descendants of one of America's founding families. He received his education at Hiwassee College and the University of Tennessee. He was a well known land developer and home builder in Knoxville. Serving as President of the Homebuilders Association in 1958 in which he helped found. He developed ten subdivisions and built 500 private family homes in his career. He was a long time member of Fountain City Lions Club, Fountain City Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville where he was a deacon and an elder. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting on the family farm in Madisonville, pheasant hunting in South Dakota and fishing anywhere he was. He loved to travel coast to coast with his family and later internationally with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Dorothy Sprinkle McSpadden; his sister Nona McSpadden Cook of Madisonville, TN; his daughter Susanne McSpadden Marcum, Knoxville, TN. He was preceded in death by son Claude Gerald McSpadden. Also surviving are his grandchildren Julie Marcum Brennan and children Ryan, Caroline, and Carson of Old Greenwich, CT, Keith Rogers Marcum, wife Emily and their children Sarah Jane, Ethan and Luke of Knoxville, TN, Beth Gilbert, husband Mike and their children Aerial and Aubrey of Warsaw, IN, Emily McSpadden, Knoxville, TN, Katie Loftin, husband Casey and their children Gray, Charles and Anna Margaret of Knoxville, TN. Interment service to be conducted at 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
