Geneva Mae Brown, the daughter of Harry Gordon and Leona Warford Gordon was born October 16, 1906 at Hurdland, MO. She was united with her loved ones who had gone before on January 23, 2002.

She was a graduate of the Hurdland High School Class of 1924. After graduation she was employed as the day operator by the Hurdland Telephone Company until her marriage to Herschel Herbert Brown on December 19, 1927. To this union one son was born, Wilbur Edwin. For a short time they lived in Quincy, IL, returning to make their home on a farm northwest of Baring, MO, where they lived for 45 years.

On October 16, 1977, Geneva and Herschel observed their 50th wedding anniversary in Baring, MO, before retiring from farming to make their home in Kirksville, MO. Mr. Brown passed away September 29, 1979, after a long illness.

Mrs. Brown was a charter member of the Jolly Neighbors Extension Club and its first president. She was also a member of the Greensburg O.E.S., #258, receiving her 50 year pin in 1995. She was a past matron and served as secretary for 13 years. She was also a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem located at that time in Kirksville, MO. An active member of the Baring Community Church, she served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher of the adult class.

Encouraged by her son, Mrs. Brown moved to Memphis to be closer to family in April, 1980. She attended the Memphis First Christian Church, where she was a member of the Loyal Women's Class and president for three years. She was also a member of the Joy Club of the Memphis Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, as well as her son, Wilbur; and granddaughter, Jane Ann Byrn.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Maurine Brown Robinson and husband Doug of Arbela, MO; grandchildren, Dale and Jeanne Brown of Northbridge, MA, Jeannette and Danny Kirby of Cantril, IA, E.J. Brown of Ashton, IL, Terry and Teresa Brown of Kirksville, MO, and Carol Brown Davila and Mike Offutt of Memphis, MO; great-grandchildren, Cory Brown and Christopher Brown of St. Louis, MO, Dannette Kirby Liles and Randy of Columbia, MO, Jody Kirby Poole of Memphis, MO, Scott Kirby of Cantril, IA, Jim Brown and Annette Brown of Moberly, MO, Kimberly Byrn and Bobby Bryand of Ft. Madison, IA, Michael Byrn of Canton, MO, Kellen Brown and Clint Brown of Kirksville, MO, and Ausha Crow and Trey Crow of Memphis, MO; great-great-grandchildren, Danniele Liles of Columbia, MO, and Robert Gene Bryant and Kimberlynn Ann Bryant of Ft. Madison, IA, and a sister-in-law, Marie Moore of Burlington, IA.

Funeral services were held January 26, 2002, at the Hudson Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Reverend Jack Sumption officiated the services. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO. Casket bearers were Cory Brown, Christopher Brown, Scott Kirby, Jim Brown, Michael Byrn, Kellen Brown, Clint Brown and Trey Crow. Honorary bearers were Don Delaney, Donald Cooper, Richard Clark, John Crump, Jim Reardon, Gordon Cloyd, Leon James, Winnie Tade, John Ed Luther, LaVerne Douglas, Mack Ketchum, Harley Dauma, James Gardner, and George Meline.

An Eastern Star Service was conducted January 25, 2002, by Colony Chapter #543 of Colony.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Brown may be made to the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO or to the charity of the donor's choice. Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO was in charge of services.
