Leonard E. Greden
Leonard E. Greden, 72, of Route 1, Altura, died Tuesday (Dec. 21, 1993) in the emergency room of Community Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Mt. Vernon Township of Winona County to Peter and Katherine (Kreidermacher) Greden. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Rollingstone, Minn., in 1937. On Sept. 2, 1947, Leonard married Bernelda Mussell in Iowa. He lived and farmed his entire life on the Greden family farm in Mt. Vernon Township. Leonard was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Oak Ridge, Minn., and its St. Nicholas Society. He was also a member of the Winona County Hall of Fame, Winona County Soil and Water Conservation Board, the A.S.C.S. Committee, the Mount Vernon Township Board, the Altura Lions Club, the Land of Lakes District Board and was active in 4H. Leonard was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and loved to fish.
Survivors include his wife, Bernelda; a son, Larry (Nancy) Greden of Altura, Minn.; a daughter, Judy (Steve) Ellinghuysen of Altura; a foster daughter, Patty (Darrell) Zeller of Zumbrota, Minn.; 8 grandchildren, Karie (Peter) Svien, Brent (Polly) Greden, Ross and Cami Greden, Scott, Jill, John and Sarah Ellinghuysen; two great-grandchildren, Luke Edward Greden and Adam Paul Greden; and two brothers, Norbert (Helen) Greden of Altura and Walter (Irene) Greden of Winona. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, Minn.; the rev. Donald Loosbrock officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Oak Ridge. Friends may call at the church from 4-9 today and from 9:30 a.m. until services Friday. An 8 p.m. prayer service will be held today.
Pallbearers will be Ross and Brent Greden, Scott and John Ellinghuysen, Peter Swien and Jim Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be Sarah and Jill Ellinghuysen, Cami Greden and Karie Svien. Hoff Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
