Alta M. Birtell, 95, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at McCrite Plaza Health Center.
Alta was born in Wakefield, KS on May 29, 1912 to Edward and Mary (Ferguson) Buchanan.
Alta married Walter W. Birtell In Wakarusa on August 16, 1933. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1983.
She was an active member of Auburn Christian Church and Pleasant Valley Club.
Alta is survived by her twin sister, Alma Decker; brother, Delbert Buchanan; two sons, William and John Birtell; daughter, Shirley Carls; 12 grandchildren;12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Harold, Frank and Walter; 4 sisters, Leah Yocum, Lillian Buchanan, Louisa Harris and Clarice Arnold.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 5, 2008 at Auburn Christian Church, 85th & Auburn Road. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Alta will lie in state after 5:00 PM.
