Myrtle Martha Strickland was the daughter of Daniel McAfee Strickland and Minerva Nelson.
She graduated from Simmons College, Abilene, TX 1920. While there, she met her husband-to-be, Solomon Cossie Gartman. They were married at Abilene, TX on 8 June 1921, his graduation day.
They were the parents of Solomon Cossie "Jay" Gartman, Jr. and Mona Beth Gartman Reavis.
