William Nelson "Willie" Dunegan was born on January 9, 1889 Wade, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, Oklahoma to William Landon Dunegan Jr and Frances Nelson.

After the death of his mother Frances, Willie was left in the care of a close frind, Mrs Alabama (Hamilton) Fuller. She was also a teacher at Jones Academy in Heartshorne, Oklahoma. Willie's father passed away in 1906 and Mrs Fuller raised him as her own and enrolled him into Jones Academy. A school within the Choctaw Nation.

Willie became a member of the Choctaw Nation at the age of 13. He was 1/4 Choctaw by blood. Card #3383, Roll #9667.

William married Cuebelle Freeman on August 27, 1911 in Bryan County, Oklahoma. The result of their union was nine children.

William passed away on June 10, 1958 in Kiowa County, Oklahoma. His final resting place is at Fairlawn Cemetery.
