Lavoisier "Jewell" Fayette in 1888

"Dr. Fayette was a graduate of North Western University and Chicago Medical College, and was valedictorian of his class. To his skill as a physician and surgeon many patients can attest.
When the Civil War broke out he enlisted as a private in the 13th WI. Regiment, and was afterwards put on the medical staff of the hospital department, seeing in all a service of nearly five years. He came to Nickerson, October 9, 1885, and made his residence here almost continuously for the intervening twenty-one years. In early manhood Dr. Fayette professed faith in Christ and joined the Baptist church. He gave liberally for the support of the gospel and other humane causes. Any sufferer seeking help always found in Dr. Fayette a friend who would give them the best that he had, although such giving might entail a loss to himself."
