James "Kevin" McMaster, 64 of Springfield died Sunday, April 1, 2012 in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield. Kevin, a son of the late James T. and Katherine (Sheip) McMaster was born in Springfield on March 22, 1948. Raised in Springfield he graduated from Springfield Trade High School and was on the school's swim team. In his youth, Kevin was a member and enjoyed going to the Springfield Boys Club. He was employed for the past six years as a customer service representative at Penske Truck Rental in Chicopee. He previously worked as office supervisor for 25 years with Solar Trucking, served as shop steward at AMI Truck Leasing, and was a limousine driver for the Limo Connection. Kevin served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Gunther-Rowley Post 293 of East Longmeadow. Kevin was a little league coach and also coached the Interstate 91 Hockey league. He was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and was head usher at the 4 p.m. Mass. Kevin is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathleen M. (Paxton) McMaster; two sons, Daniel K. McMaster and his wife Heather of San Diego, CA and Craig C. McMaster and his fiancee Ashley of Wilbraham; four brothers, William McMaster of Albuquerque, NM, Michael McMaster and his wife Michele of Williamsburg, MA, Patrick McMaster and his wife Karen of Southwick, and Thomas McMaster of Salado, TX; a sister, Peggy Halstead of Summerville, SC; a grandson, Connor; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours for Kevin will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. His funeral will be held on Friday, April 6, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by the Liturgy of the Word at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 1900 Allen Street, Springfield. Rites of Committal and Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Kevin's memory may be made to St. Patrick' Church and or to American Legion Gunther-Rowley Post 293, 3 Legion Court, East Longmeadow, MA 01028.
