Samuel W. Cook passed away at the Cottage Hospital in Creston, Thursday morning February 5, 1914. Mr. Cook has not been in the best of health for some time but the trouble was not considered serious. A few days before his death he started for Creston and while on the way was taken with hemorrhage of the stomach. He entered the hospital and upon examination it was found that he was suffering from ulcers of the stomach. Some of these ulcers had eaten through into an artery which caused the hemorrhage. He continued to steadily fail until death claimed him Thursday morning at 11:06 o'clock.

Mr. Cook was born in Henry county, Iowa, March 14, 1845, and was 68 years 10 months old at the time of his death. He is survived by a wife and six children, Edward and Jesse of Colorado, Mrs. Nora Dale of Oklahoma; Leonard of North Dakota, Laura of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Bertha Cochran of Macksburg; also an adopted son Allen. these children with a step son Dr. Elmo Childs of Cainesville, Missouri were all present at the funeral which was held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock from Lincoln Chapel. Interment was made in the Moon cemetery south of Macksburg.

Mr. Cook was a veteran of the Civil War having served in the 45th Iowa Infantry. Several years ago he with his family came to Macksburg residing for a time in town, then moving to a farm one and one half miles east of town. About eight years ago he sold this farm and bought another near Spaulding, Union county, where he lived at the time of his death. During his long residence here, Mr. Cook was known to be a man of admirable character and sterling worth and commanded the respect of all his acquaintances. His life was exemplary in every way and the family may be comforted in the thought that he is now reaping the reward of a well spent life. The many friends here extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
