RITES ARE TODAY FOR VALLEY NATIVE MYRRL G. ALLEN, 91 Funeral services are being held today for Westcliffe native Myrrl G. Allen, late of Pueblo. Mrs. Allen died last Friday, Feb. 16, 2007 in Pueblo. She was 91. She was born Jan. 9, 1916 in Westcliffe to Clarence and Geneva (Hamlin) Hunt. Mrs. Allen was a talented quilter, knitter and rug weaver, and enjoyed repairing dolls. She was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Pueblo, and was an active member of the church's Ladies Aid organization. When the school was built, she volunteered her time in the lunch room. On July 5, 1934 in Westcliffe, she married Henry Allen. He preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1996. Mrs. Allen also was preceded in death by a son, Virgil Allen, in 1948, and by two sisters and a brother. She is survived by two sons: Loran (and wife Betty) Allen of Westcliffe, and Laurel (and wife, Bertha) Allen of Pueblo. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Other survivors include two aunts and an uncle. Funeral services are being held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Holt funeral home Chapel of the Garden in Cañon City, with Pastors Randy Bolt and Robert Harmon officiating. Interment will follow at the Ula Cemetery near Westcliffe. A reception will follow at the Hope Lutheran Church in Westcliffe.
