*This stone was observed on Sept. 23, 2015..it appears to be in the right area of stones remaining. He was not listed at this time so I am adding this name. Perhaps just overlooked on the list and in the cemetery as well?

I have found a Jacob Applegate in the 1860 Fed census of Pennington, NJ. He was 27 years old, living with Deahah, 26 years old, and 3 children: Margaret J. (4), Joseph (3), and Lewis (1). Jacob was listed as a laborer. They lived at #21 South main Street.

He was also listed in a Mortality census as having died of Namonia (the way they spelled in the census)at age 35 on April 1, 1870.

Also listed in the Draft Registration in June 1863 as living in Pennington, NJ...33 years old, laborer, and married.

**There is a Jacob S. Applegate listed in the Union Army, 28th regiment, N.J.Infantry, Co. B, Private.
**Another reference I found was a Jacob S. Applegate in a Naval enlistment table...enlisted on Aug. 22, 1864 for 1 year. He was 21 yrs. old. b.1843 in NJ. Colored, resides in Middlesex, NJ at that time.

Quite possibly the same Jacob.

In another 1870 Census in Pennington, NJ; there is another Jacob (maybe a son?) 8 years old, black, living with Dean Applegate (35) housekeeper and Charles Applegate (6).

What appears to be this same Jacob in the 1880 Census of Ewing, NJ, is an 18 year old Jacob, born about 1862,Black, single, Farm Laborer, Born N.J., Parents also born in NJ. He is living in the home of Daniel Cornell (70), farmer, Daniel's wife (69), an in-law (49),plus a total of 7 Cornell's, 1 servant, and a 80 year old.

My search has ended here. I would be glad to add more from anyone or transfer to a family member.
