He was born in August 1899 as Cornelis Jacob du Porto at the street called Gravenstraat in the Dutch Navy harbor city of Den Helder, in the upper northern part of the Dutch western province Noord-Holland, just south of the Island of Texel, where his parents were born, the first child of the 28 years aged navy stoker/fireman (stoker marine) Cornelis du Porto and Jannetje Hartog.

De Porto is not a Dutch surname, but probably an Italian or Portugese one, meaning "Of Harbor". Du Porto means "Of the Harbor".

The family Du Porto lived in December 1900 at the Rosestraat in Rotterdam, province Zuid-Holland when Cornelis Jacob's brother Jacob Cornelis du Porto was born. His father Cornelis du Porto was then a sailor (varensgezel).

On 13 September 1902 Cornelis (3 y) arrived with his mother Jannetje Duporto (22 y) and his brother Jacob (1 y 6 m) on the SS Rijndam at the port of New York, Ellis Island. Their last residence place in the Netherlands was Texel and their final destination was the city of Paterson, seat of Passaic County, New Jersey, where his father Cornelius Duporto was already residing at 289 Huronstreet.

Apparently his parents Jannetje and Cornelius De Porto divorced and both remarried. His mother Jannetje alias Jennie Hartog De Porto remarried after 1906 to the seven years older Adam Kalf, who was born in 1873 on the Island of Texel too.

In 1920 Cornelis Deporto (20 y, born in Holland), his mother Jennie (39, Holland), his stepfather Adam Kalf (46, Holland), his brother Jacob Deporto (19, Holland), his sisters Cornelia Deporto (16, Indiana) and Katie Deporto (14, Indiana) lived in North Township, Lake County, in the upper northwestern part of Indiana.

In April 1940 Cornelius Deporto (40 y, Holland, millright [bankworker, machinist or mechanic]), his wife Katherine (34, Holland) and their daughter Pearl (17, Indiana) lived at and owned a home, worth $1500, in Munster, North Township, Lake County, Indiana. They lived in 1935 at the same house.

Cornelius Deporto died in August 1985 at the age of almost 86 years in his last residence place Lansing, a southern suburb of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.
