August Aas was born in Christiana (now Oslo), Norway, on October 21, 1864, to Hans Thompson Aas and Inger Marie. While Hans Aas did not emigrate to America, his mother, siblings and son, August, did. August was the grandson of Marie Sannes.
In March 1886, at the age of twenty-one, August immigrated to America going directly to Climax, Minnesota, to join his grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He married Mrs. Anna (Thoreson) Rise, on September 30, 1898 in Sand Hill Lutheran Church. She was the widow of Knut Rise and had two small girls, Johanna and Olga.
To this union were born the following children: Hans, who died in infancy, Herman, Carl, Marcus, Marie, and Alvhild.
Mr. Aas was a member of the school board and on the township board for a number of years. They were members of the Sand Hill Church. They settled on the Northeast quarter in Section 24 of Tynsid Township. Beside farming, Mr. Aas was a painter, and steam engine operator.
He died December 5, 1961 in Crookston, Minnesota and is buried in the Sand Hill Lutheran Cemetery.
