Falling Bear
Birth: 2009
Death: May 4, 2012

Falling Bear, so named because he came out of the Wilderness looking for food at the University of Colorado at Boulder, He apparently became frightened by the presence of Humans and Cars so he climbed up into a tree to escape.
Not long afterwards, Boulder Police and representatives of the National Parks and Wildlife Service tranquilized the hapless bear and were able to catch it as it fell from the tree onto a Gym Cushion. As the bear fell, he was photographed by Andy Duann who then gave the photo to the University News Paper. After going on the Internet, the photograph went viral and the Bear became an overnight celebrity.
Sadly, as he was making his way towards Denver, he was struck by two cars and killed while trying to cross US Highway 36.
Falling Bear was estimated to be about 3 years old and weighed about 250 pounds.

A very sad, tragic story. Knew of the tranquilizing report, but did not know the follow-up and end of "Falling Bear." All a bear seems to ever want to do is survive (often forced to adapt to human encroachment), and live life AS A BEAR. Your life and deat...(Read more)
